Aviation Overview
The mission of the Aviation program at San Jacinto Valley Academy is to prepare students for future careers in the field of Aviation and Aerospace. We have alumni who have gone on to become airline pilots, aircraft maintenance technicians, drone pilots, engineers, and attend the United States Air Force Academy.
In the Aviation Career Technical Education (CTE) program, you’ll get hands-on experience with airplanes, drones, rockets, flight simulators, and more. You’ll build the foundational skills necessary to become a pilot, mechanic, engineer, air traffic controller, and a variety of other aviation and aerospace careers.
Classes
Our Aviation program has three classes available to 8th-12th grade students.
Introduction to Aviation
In Introduction to Aviation you’ll experience a little bit of everything that the aviation and aerospace industries have to offer. Complete projects, attend aviation-themed field trips, and begin to understand what aviation is all about. Learn more on the Intro to Aviation Class page.
Aviation I Fundamentals of Flight
Aviation I focuses on exposing students to the science of flight. Students will take a closer look at various career paths in the aviation/aerospace Industry. In this course, we begin taking students on a discovery flight in a real aircraft. Learn more on the Aviation I Class page.
Aviation II Advanced Aviation
In Aviation II, students will learn advanced aeronautical knowledge and apply this knowledge to the FAA Private Pilot Knowledge exam or the FAA Remote Pilot Knowledge exam. In this course, we offer flight training scholarships to qualified applicants to help them get started on their pilot journey. Learn more on the Aviation II Class page.
Additional Aviation Opportunities
Aviation Club
Our Aviation Club is open to middle school students and meets once a week. The club provides early exposure to aviation and students learn about the basics of flight, fly flight simulators, work with drones, build small airplanes, and work in teams to complete fun projects.
Aviation Summer Camp
The Aviation program holds an annual summer camp, available to 4th-7th grade students. Students engage in fun hands-on learning and are introduced to aviation in the process.
Aircraft Build
The Aviation program recently finished building and test-flying a Vans RV-12 Aircraft kit. Student mechanics are supervised by a certified airframe and powerplant mechanic, and all work is meticulously checked to ensure a top-quality airplane is produced. We will begin building our next aircraft kit, a Rans S21 in the Fall of 2024. Expected completion 2027. Learn more on Aircraft Build.
